S&OP -
From Start to Finish

Do any of the following apply to your situation?

  • Your company is already operating Sales & Operations Planning.
  • Or perhaps you’re implementing it.
  • Or maybe re-implementing it, because it didn’t work so well the first time.
  • Or . . . none of the above, but you’re thinking about getting started.
In any case, this package might be very beneficial to you. It can help to assess a currently operating S&OP process, give you a roadmap for implementation, or help train new people on how S&OP operates and the kinds of benefits it provides.  Whether you are the President, S&OP Process Owner, or a member of the implementation team this package has something for you.

Tip from Tom:
Does your Executive S&OP process include a dollar view along with units? Some companies do a reasonably good job with units, but never convert them into dollar views of past performance along with future plans for demand and supply. This means that they’re not getting the full benefits from S&OP.

For most executives, the overarching element in business is financial performance. They’re measured by it; they’re compensated by it; their careers literally live or die by it. Therefore, to establish Executive S&OP as a key tool in the top management tool kit – to make it indispensable to them – imbed the financial view into the process.
Do the basic planning in units and convert to dollars. Saying it another way: to get the biggest bang for the buck, make the “bucks” highly visible.

For more on this, here’s an excerpt from Sales & Operations Planning: The How-To Handbook.  You may also want to check principle #6 in Sales & Operations Planning: The Self-Audit Workbook.
